It was Carl Jung who theorized that we are all influenced by invisible archetypes that shape our behavior and influence our inner world. Discovering and working with these archetypes can open us to powerful forces of transformation. For women in particular, this means accessing the energies symbolized by ancient goddesses, each of which represents a core dimension of femininity. When we unveil the archetypal energies present within us, we gain profound insights into how we can live more meaningful, authentic and joyous lives. We access more power, depth, and wisdom.

So, it’s with great excitement that I invite you to a special FREE online event with me on Saturday, January 30, at 10am Pacific where I will help you go beyond the book and experience my teachings during: Goddesses in Everywoman: How Discovering Your Natural Archetype Can Liberate Your Full Expression.

February 11, 2016 – Houston, TX
Houston Grand Opera, The Ring Cycle - Siegfried
Evening lecture 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Siegfried the Lonely Hero and Self-Made Man:
A Psychological and Symbolic Understanding of Siegfried

The Ring Cycle tells of authoritarian fathers obsessed with acquiring power and the effect for three generations on sons and daughters. Adult children raised to be extensions of a parent's ambitions or needs find themselves--like Siegfried, asking "who am I?" With his innate strength, lack of empathy and fearlessness, Siegfried personifies the lonely hero who becomes a self-made man. He awakens Brunnhilde whose punishment for disobeying Wotan was to be made helpless and unconscious. The opera is rich with symbols and symbolic figures: the woodbird, Fafner the dragon, the dwarves Mime and his brother Alberich, the Wanderer.

February 12 Lecture:
Artemis Goddess of the Hunt and Moon,
Archetype of the Activist and Feminist

Artemis Goddess of the Hunt and Moon, Archetype of the Activist and Feminist Artemis the Greek Goddess of the Hunt and Moon (Roman Goddess Diana), twin sister of Apollo is the archetype of the feminist, environmental and social justice activist, whose major symbols are the bow and arrow, crescent moon, and mother bear. Myths reveal archetypal patterns in women who personify Artemis: sisterhood with women, brother-relationships with men; ability to focus on goals of her own, quick to act and punish, outrage, and whose realm is the wilderness. This is the archetype of the women’s movement and the archetype liberated by it in the latter part of the 20th Century. Jean Shinoda Bolen, author of Goddesses in Everywoman and Gods in Everyman brings Artemis to life through storytelling, amplified by examples from life and analysis which are likely to resonate in listeners who will recognize Artemis in themselves as archetype or anima.

February 13 Workshop:
Path with Heart, Heart as Compass, Heart-Activism

'One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eye." Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince. Most of us have an innate sense that there is a purpose to life, related to the idea that life is a soul journey. Jung’s individuation, Campbell’s finding your personal myth, Psyche's tasks, are variations of the message. We suffer life-threatening illnesses, heart-breaking losses, betrayed expectations and become aware that life is all too short. We find ourselves at major and minor crossroads. Will love or fear determine what we do? Choose love or power? Which step to take? What do we know in our bones? What is Crone Wisdom? Courage is a heart muscle that is not exercised when habit and conformity and pleasing others has numbed us. Or fear of looking foolish holds back our growing edge, and so we do not say what is in our heart, don't get up and dance, hold back what we know is true, fail to act and shame ourselves. In this workshop. listening to storyteller-analyst-author Jean Bolen will have us look at ourselves with compassion from inside out. The workshop will include a guided meditation and circle with a sacred center as an experience and a metaphor .

June 25-July 2: Helena, MT
Feathered Pipe Ranch
Women's Week-Long Retreat
River of Life: Water, Moon, Yin

Once again, a river will run through this workshop, we will raft down another tributary of the Missouri River in the middle of the week, and see reflections of life in the midst of the adventure and laughter. During the retreat, the moon will be moving into its waning phases going through the last quarter into crescent and then into the mysterious dark of the moon. Hecate, goddess of the crossroads is the archetype of this phase. We will be in a circle with a sacred center, with Jean as weaver of themes and meaning found in our stories and myths. Nature and women together bring out an emerging awareness of the sacred feminine, the inner valued girl child, women’s mysteries, and women’s wisdom.

Jean writes: This is a full circle intention for me-- to return to the Aspen grove around grandfather rock where Lilllian Michaelsky created a sacred space after she did her last pipe and prayer flag ceremony, joined by women who knew her and some who will now know her spirit.

July 22-24, 2016 - Stockbridge, MA
Kripalu Center Retreat
Artemis Goddess of the Hunt and Moon,
Archetype of the Activist and Feminist

Artemis the Greek Goddess of the Hunt and Moon (Roman Goddess Diana), twin sister of Apollo is the archetype of the feminist, environmental and social justice activist, whose major symbols are the bow and arrow, crescent moon, and mother bear.

Artemis as goddess-archetype of the hunt is lived out in women, is an anima image in egalitarian men, and a major image of women onscreen and in the world. Film image and real life roles come together in actress Angelina Jolie, special ambassador for UNICEF, whose personal life exemplifies Artemis qualities, as well as exemplified by the fictional and film heroine, Katniss Everdeen of the Hunger Games Trilogy.

Artemis as goddess-archetype of the moon is a spiritual dimension in women who find beauty and oneness in nature. Often in the second half of life, time to reflect and turn inward develops this aspect of the archetype. Artemis-Selene-Hecate are the three moon goddesses of Greek mythology, and Artemis-Athena-Hestia are the three virgin goddesses. There is psychological sense to these triads, which will be explored.

In this workshop, participants will find that Jean Shinoda Bolen story-telling and amplification of them, offers insights into our own lives and into relationships which are influenced by Artemis . There will be a guided meditation, with time to reflect, write, and share.
