Celtic and Crone Wisdom
Blessed Solitude, Blessings, Soul Friends

Dear Friends:

I have been reading my own Crones Don't Whine: Concentrated Wisdom for Juicy Women(2003) and Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom  and To Bless the Space Between Us, by John O'Donohue, picking up other books from my shelves and tables, grazing on poetic words - - -Mary Oliver's,  Michael Kent's Meow Te Ching. many others. I have time to do so -- on a day of blessed solitude.

The most wasted of all days is the day we have not purred.

-If you are too busy to purr, you are too busy.

Beneath the wisdom and courage of all great cats lies
the heart of a kitten.

------Meow Te Ching by Meow Tzu
(Author Michael Kent)

Celtic Wisdom

If you never think of your soul but confine it to some vague region of spiritual fantasy, you squander an infinite energy at the heart of your life. Once you awaken to your soul, you know that you are no longer alone; nor are you at the mercy of your own frailty and limitation. Awakening to your soul, you begin to learn another way of being in the world. . .the silence of landscape conceals vast presence. . .the earth is full of soul. . . Solitude is luminous.

When you cease to fear your solitude, a new creativity awakens in you. Your forgotten or neglected wealth begins to reveal itself. You come home to yourself and learn to rest within. Thoughts are our inner senses. Infused with silence and solitude, they bring out the mystery of inner landscape.

Maybe the desire to make something beautiful
is the piece of God that is inside each of us.
--Mary Oliver from "Franz Marc's Blue Horse" in Blue Horses.
Anam Cara

Anam is the Gaelic word for soul; cara is the word for friend. So anam cara means soul friend.

The soul needs love as urgently as the body needs air. In the warmth of love, the soul can be itself. All the possibilities of your human destiny are asleep in your soul. You are here to realize and honor these possibilities. When love comes into your life, unrecognized dimensions of your destiny awaken and blossom and grow.

Friendship is always an act of recognition. In the moment of friendship, two souls suddenly recognize each other. . .  a flash of recognition and the embers of kinship glow. . . a sense of ancient knowing. You come home to each other at last. . . A friend is a loved one who awakens your life in order to free the wild possibilities within you.

--From Anam Cara by John O' Donohue

I came across Traveling Light by Brian Andrews of Storypeople.com in an airport. Whimsy and wisdom, funny drawings, and primary colors!  He cuts to the chase, it isn't poetry, no excess words:

What color are souls? She said
& I said, Color isn't
that much of an issue
when you're
talking souls.
--from Color Blind

I don't think of it
as working for
world peace, he said.

I think of it as
just trying to
get along in a
really big strange
family.
--Big Strange Family

How many people
can you love before
it's too much? she said

& I said I didn't think
there was any
real limit as long
as you didn't care if
they loved you back.
-- Real Limit

August 16 - 21, 2015  "Your One Wild and Precious Life: A Deepening Gathering for Women" The premise of my Jungian, feminist, and spiritual perspective begins with the certainty that it matters what we do with our “one wild and precious life,” a quote from the poet, Mary Oliver. To find and live our personal myth, is to be true to who we are. In this week, there will be time to hear stories and myths that are about us, time for self-reflection and perhaps to discover sources of meaning in our lives. Esalen is a most beautiful place.
