Wise Words from Eleanor Roosevelt
|
|
|
Politically active First Lady and widow of Franklin D. Roosevelt. From 1945 to 1953, Eleanor served as a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly. She also became chair of the UN's Human Rights Commission. As a member of the Human Rights Commission, she helped to write the Universal Declaration of Human Rights an effort that she considered to be her greatest achievement.

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
"A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong it is until it's in hot water.”
"Learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself."
"Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art."
I think of Eleanor Roosevelt as an embodiment of Metis, one of four archetypes of wisdom in Goddesses in Older Women

Artemis: The Indomitable Spirit in Everywoman. This is the archetype that gives meaning, depth and energy to activists whose causes are women and girls, protecting mothers, environmentalists motivated by love of nature and the planet, women who protect and provide sanctuaries for animals, mystical and spiritually energized activists. Artemis, the Greek goddess of the Hunt and Moon’s symbols are the mother bear, the waxing crescent moon, her silver bow and quiver of arrows: like Katness Everdeen in Hunger Games and Atalanta in mythology. Pubdate: September 1, 2014. You can pre-order on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Artemis will also be an audiobook by BrillianceAudio.
